Rishabh Pant Names Only IPL Side He Didn't Want To Join In Auction

After being appointed captain of the Lucknow Super Giants, star wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant has revealed that he didn't want to join Punjab Kings (PBKS). Pant, who released by the Delhi Capitals ahead of IPL 2025 mega auction, became the costliest ever buy in the history of the tournament as he was bought by LSG for Rs 27 crore. Pant broke the record of Shreyas Iyer, who was sold PBKS for Rs 26.75 crore earlier in the day. Pant highlighted that since PBKS had a purse of Rs 110 crore, he was relieved to see Iyer going in the other way.

IPL 2025 mega auctions took place in November last year and all the ten franchises built their respective teams for the upcoming edition. With a number of changes in the retention rules, many shocking buys were made and whopping amount of money was spent by all the teams. On one hand, India wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant, who was sold to Lucknow Super Giants for Rs 27 crore, bagged the highest amount in the history of IPL auctions, many big names remained unsold.

Star India wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant is likely to be named the skipper of the Sanjika Goenka-owned Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) franchise ahead of the Indian Premier League 2025 edition as reported by ESPNcricinfo. Right-hand batter KL Rahul was not retained by the Lucknow franchise ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction despite taking the team to the playoffs in their first two editions of the cash-rich league. After not retaining Rahul, the LSG team had two options to select for the role between Pant and Shreyas Iyer, so the franchise and management opted to go with the former.
