The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to put a limit on practice sessions for the Indian Premier League (IPL) teams ahead of the new season. According to the new directive, teams can have no more than seven sessions while only two warm-up matches will be permitted. The new rules were conveyed to the IPL sides through a BCCI note which also asked the host grounds to allow the usage of the facilities any local games, legends leagues or celebrity tournaments.
Shafali Verma smacked 80 not out as Delhi Capitals handed a fourth consecutive defeat to Royal Challengers Bengaluru with a commanding nine-wicket win in their Women's Premier League contest here on Saturday. After Ellyse Perry's fourth fifty (60 not out) of the season took the defending champions to a competitive 147/5, DC batters Shafali (80 not out) and Jess Jonassen (61 not out) brushed aside the challenge without much ado.
Virat Kohli is set to play his 300th ODI on Sunday, and New Zealand all-rounder Glenn Phillips said the Indian batting icon's "legacy" will shine through the years while "inspiring" generations of young cricketers. Kohli will become the seventh Indian player to achieve the feat after Sachin Tendulkar, MS Dhoni, Rahul Dravid, Mohammed Azharuddin, Sourav Ganguly and Yuvraj Singh. “Obviously, he's an incredible player. And to know him a little bit personally myself is awesome," said Phillips, who once played alongside Kohli at IPL side Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
Virat Kohli's childhood coach Rajkumar Sharma believes that the Indian batting maestro still has several years of international cricket left in him and could continue gracing the Indian Premier League (IPL) well into his 40s if he chooses. Sharma was confident that Kohli's supreme fitness and unwavering commitment to the game would allow him to extend his career at the highest level. “Virat will play at least four years of international cricket if not more and could play many more years in IPL if he wants to,” Sharma told Cricblogger.
Defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru will be determined to give their home fans a parting victory over a fatigued Delhi Capitals outfit here on Saturday, before the Women's Premier League moves to Lucknow for its third leg. RCB had begun the third season of WPL with two wins in Vadodara, but their fortunes have nosedived since the tournament caravan shifted to their home ground M Chinnaswamy here. Three consecutive defeats, including a heartbreaking loss in the Super Over to UP Warriorz, have left them reeling.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru Women vs Gujarat Giants Women, WPL 2025: Smarting from their dramatic Super Over loss in the Women's Premier League, Royal Challengers Bengaluru will aim to get back on track as they take on bottom-placed Gujarat Giants on Thursday. The defending champions started strong with two commanding wins, but consecutive defeats against Mumbai Indians and UP Warriorz have halted their momentum. With Delhi Capitals surging to the top of the table after their victory on Tuesday, RCB will be desperate to return to winning ways. Meanwhile, Gujarat Giants continue to languish at the bottom of the points table, having managed just one win in four outings. Their latest defeat to Delhi Capitals was particularly dismal, as they barely scraped past the 100-run mark. (Live Scorecard)
Former England captain Kevin Pietersen was on Thursday appointed mentor of Delhi Capitals ahead of the upcoming IPL season. The 44-year-old thus returns to the side he captained in 2014. This marks Pietersen's first coaching assignment in the IPL, where he featured in as a player from 2009 to 2016. "I'm so excited to come home to Delhi! I have the fondest memories of my time with Delhi. I love the city, I love the fans and I'll do everything I can to support the franchise in our quest for the title in 2025," wrote Pietersen on X.
