SOUTHAMPTON, N.Y. — Whatever dread Wyndham Clark felt when he saw the tee times and the forecast for the U.S. Open gave way to hope Thursday, and he still hadn't even arrived at Shinnecock Hills.
With first round play suspended due to darkness, Wyndham Clark holds a huge lead at the top of the 2026 U.S. Open odds board at -6, which has also propelled him to the top of the tournament winner odds board at +330. Clark won the 2023 U.S. Open as a pretournament 100-1 long shot, but came into this week's competition at Shinnecock Hills at a much more manageable 45-1.

Thirty minutes after it began, play was stopped by fog. Fourteen players managed to post scores — no birdies among them — before the horn sounded to stop because of low visibility.
The season's third major — the U.S. Open — is at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Southampton, New York.
Rory McIlroy believes he has a successful strategy for winning the US Open but a key factor will be patience as the players wait to see how Shinnecock Hills performs in what are expected to be testing weather conditions.
Rory McIlroy believes the “false economy” created by the threat of LIV Golf may now be putting some well-established PGA Tour events at risk.
