Snooker players to earn minimum £20,000 prize money in major cash boost for new season

All 130 professional snooker players on the World Snooker Tour will be guaranteed minimum earnings of £20,000 for the 2022/23 season in a major £2.6m cash boost. An initial payment of £10,000 will be doled out this month with another £10,000 paid to the tour member in January.

World champion Ronnie O’Sullivan will be among the big names on action on day one aiming to take the Northern Ireland Open crown from Mark Allen when a star-studded line-up takes to the tables in Belfast next month. The top 16 players in the world will feature in a 70-player field at the Waterfront Hall in the Northern Irish capital from October 16 to 23, in the first of the season’s Home Nations Series. Ad Belfast native Allen claimed the Alex Higgins Trophy on home turf last year, defeating John Higgins 9-8 in a close final.

His average shot time of 18.78 thus far in the 2022/23 season is sixth quickest. Those ahead of him? Ronnie O'Sullivan, Thepchaiya Un-Nooh, Zhao Xintong, Hossein Vafaei and Hammad Miah.
