ROME (AP) — Fresh off his victory at the Madrid Open, Carlos Alcaraz withdrew from the Italian Open on Monday because of a right ankle injury.
Naomi Osaka has withdrawn from the Italian Open in Rome to rest an Achilles injury ahead of the French Open, the WTA said on Monday. The four-time Grand Slam champion suffered the injury in her opening match in Madrid earlier this month, before struggling in a second-round loss to Sara Sorribes Tormo.
Former world No. 1 Naomi Osaka has pulled out of the WTA Rome due to an ankle injury. She was due to take on Spain’s Sara Sorribes Tormo in the opening round of the Italian Open — just over a week after the same opponent knocked her out of the Madrid Open.
