Mumbai Indians ended Delhi Capitals' hopes of reaching the playoffs, defeating them by five wickets in Match 69 of IPL 2022 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Saturday. Chasing a target of 160, MI lost the early wickets of skipper Rohit Sharma. However, Ishan Kishan and Dewald Brevis put them back on track, adding 51 runs for the second wicket. Tim David and Tilak Varma then added the finishing touches to MI's chase, adding another 50 to take MI to victory. In the end, MI chased down the target with five balls to spare. Thanks to MI's win over Delhi Capitals, Royal Challengers Bangalore became the fourth team to qualify for the playoffs.
Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma said that he will be looking forward to correcting his mistakes after his team registered a win in their last league stage game of IPL 2022 against Delhi Capitals on Saturday. Clinical knocks by MI batters on Saturday helped five-time champions in finishing their IPL 2022 campaign on a high as they defeated DC by five wickets here at Wankhede Stadium. "We were here to win the game. I know few teams were watching us closely, but we wanted to finish on a high. We'll try to correct the mistakes next season. It was tough after losing eight games, so we needed to rectify the mistakes," said Rohit in a post-match presentation.
Delhi Capitals skipper Rishabh Pant on Saturday said he felt that Tim David had nicked the first delivery he faced, but didn't go for the review as most of his teammates inside the circle were not convinced, a decision which cost them a place in the IPL play-offs. Pant's decision to not review that turned out to be a blunder as David slammed 34 runs off just 11 balls with the help of two boundaries and four sixes to take the game out of DC's grasp. "I thought there was something but everyone standing in the circle was not convinced enough. So I was asking should we go up. At the end, I didn't take the review," Pant said after DC lost by five wickets to Mumbai Indians in their must-win final league game to exit the IPL.
