Sunil Gavaskar expects Shikhar Dhawan to miss T20 World Cup

Shikhar Dhawan is unlikely to work his way back into contention and feature at this year's ICC Men's T20 World Cup. Dhawan has already played at two T20 World Cups for India in 2014 and 2016 and some good form at this year's IPL tournament had seen his name thrust back into the selection spotlight. But the left-hander was overlooked for the recent five-game series against South Africa, with selectors instead opting for relative newcomers Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ishan Kishan with regulars Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul sidelined.

Currently India are the No. 2 side in the ICC Test rankings while the Ben Stokes-led England are No. 6.

The Rishabh Pant-led Indian cricket team drew 2-2 in the five match T20I series against South Africa after the fifth game was abandoned due to rain. However, Pant's form with the bat was not up to the mark. In five matches, he scored only 58 runs at an average of 14.50.
