NEW DELHI :Usman Khawaja struck an enterprising 81 and Peter Handscomb made an unbeaten 72 as Australia laboured to a modest 263 all out on the opening day of the second test against India in New Delhi on Friday.
Chief selector Chetan had earlier resigned on Friday after a sting operation caught him gossiping about players and claiming the widespread use of unsanctioned injections to pass fitness tests.Former India opener SS Das, who is from Central Zone, could now be appointed as the interim chairman of the committee as he has played the most number of Tests among the current lot in the selection panel. Das has 23 Tests to his name. Along with Das, the committee has Subroto Banerjee (East Zone), Salil Ankola (West Zone) and Sridharan Sharath (South Zone) as its other members.
Former India pace bowler Chetan Sharma has resigned from the post of chairman of the senior selection committee following a sting operation by a news channel, where he allegedly revealed confidential information. "Chetan has tendered his resignation to BCCI secretary Jay Shah and his resignation has been accepted. His position had become untenable after the sting operation. He resigned voluntarily and wasn't asked to resign," a senior BCCI source told PTI on the condition of anonymity on Friday.
