Focus On KL Rahul As Team India Look To Seal World Test Championship Final Spot

India are expected to enhance their aura of invincibility at home with another series win while a down and out Australia will need nothing less than a monumental effort to bounce back in the third Test, beginning in Indore Wednesday. India have already secured the Border-Gavaskar trophy and they will now be playing for a record-extending 16th straight series win at home and a guaranteed spot in the World Test Championship final in June. Leading 2-0 in a four-match series, India are sitting pretty and just need to make one tough decision of choosing between out-of-form K L Rahul and Shubman Gill.

There were no definite cues but it seemed like an audition when the struggling K L Rahul and the much younger Shubman Gill batted simultaneously during a training session on Monday ahead of the third Test against Australia. Stripped of India vice-captaincy following his prolonged lean patch in the five-day format, Rahul put in the hard yards in what could possibly be the final training session before the game, beginning Wednesday.

It has not been a good couple of months for KL Rahul who has been struggling for form. In the first two Test matches against Australia, the right-handed batsman failed to score big and since then, several ex-cricketers and experts have been asking for Shubman Gill to replace him as the opening partner of skipper Rohit Sharma. In the three innings that Rahul has played till now, he has not gone past the 25 run-mark even once. On Sunday, he visited Ujjain's well-known Mahakaleshwar Temple along with his wife Athiya Shetty. In a video which was released on social media, the two of them could be seen offering prayers in the temple along with other devotees in the temple who is quite famous in India.

Pakistan cricket skipper Babar Azam is well known for his witty answers during press conferences and he was in full form after the Pakistan Super League (PSL) match between Peshawar Zalmi and Islamabad United. Ravindra Jadeja jumped seven rungs to be among the top-10 bowlers, while his compatriot Ravichandran Ashwin rose a place to be at the second spot in the latest ICC Men's Test Player Rankings issued in Dubai on Wednesday.This is the first time that Jadeja has broken in the top-10 since September 2019 progressing to the ninth position after his 10-wicket match haul in the second Test against Australia in New Delhi.Injured pacer Jasprit Bumrah is the other Indian bowler in top-10, as he occupies the fifth spot.Veteran England seamer James Anderson leads the list but Australia captain Pat Cummins has dropped two places to third.
