Virat Kohli's innings promised to be a gritty one with wickets falling at the other end. But in the 19th over of the Indian 1st innings, Mitchell Starc produced a slanted delivery that moved from a length and as Kohli attempted to defend he edged on to the second slip, where Steve Smith took an overhead catch. That left India four-down and Kohli was dejected.

After Australia piled on a huge 469-run total in their first innings of the World Test Championship final against India, a lot was expected from the opening duo of India skipper Rohit Sharma and talented youngster Shubman Gill. However, both the batters fell in the second session on the second day to leave the Indian team reeling. While Rohit Sharma was trapped LBW by Pat Cummins, Gill was bowled by Scott Boland. Gill committed and left the ball only to see the delivery swing back in to clip his stumps. It was a beautiful sight, but not so much for the Indian cricket team.

Ashwin, who is the No 1 bowler in Test cricket and India's leading wicket-taker in the 2021-23 WTC cycle, was dropped as the Rohit Sharma-led side bolstered the pace ammunition by playing four seamers. "I feel that Ravichandran Ashwin is such a key factor, the leading wicket taker in the Tests cycle is not there. There are a few factors worth pondering on in Team India's perspective," Hayden told ICC after the day one's proceedings.

The fans and experts were left confused during the World Test Championship (WTC) Final between India and Australia at The Oval as Rohit Sharma went for a DRS review but ultimately decided to opt out of it in a hilarious manner. On the final ball of the 97th over, the delivery from Mohammed Shami crashed into Alex Carey's stumps but the umpire gave it not-out. The India cricketers were not that convinced about whether the ball will hit the stumps but it looked like Rohit will go for a review. He was about to gesture but at the last moment, moved his hands to show that the ball would have missed the leg-stump.

One happened courtesy India captain Rohit Sharma. While taking a DRS call, Rohit gestured with his palms behind his back. The gesture amused Mohammed Shami.

The World Test Championship final between India and Australia kicked off at the Oval, London on Wednesday. India skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to bowl first against the Pat Cummins-led side. The Rahul Dravid-coached team went in with a four-pronged pace attack and preferred Ravindra Jadeja over seasoned off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin as the lone spinner. Mohammed Siraj dismissed Usman Khawaja to give India a really good start before David Warner and Marnus Labuschagne stitched 69 runs for the second wicket for Australia. Shardul Thakur got better of Warner and then Mohammed Shami produced a ripper to get rid of Labuschagne.
