Indian captain Rohit Sharma's vulnerability against Kagiso Rabada continued with his dismissal in the first innings of the opening Test match in Centurion on Tuesday. He was again dismissed by the same bowler on Thursday in India's second innings, that too for a duck. Rohit Sharma has been a prime target for Kagiso Rabada across all formats and has been troubled consistently. The South African paceman has now dismissed Sharma a total of 14 times across formats, which is the highest by any bowler.
Legendary Indian cricket team batter Sunil Gavaskar slammed Rohit Sharma and Co for a 'listless' start to the action on Day 3 of the first Test match against South Africa in Centurion on Thursday. Dean Elgar and Marco Jansen were not bothered much by the Indian bowlers and there were even a couple of fielding errors that led to easy runs. Gavaskar was not happy with India's approach in the first session on Day 3 and said that they should have been 'full of energy' at the start of day's play.
The Rohit Sharma-led Indian cricket team endured a tough second day in the first Test against South Africa in Centurion on Wednesday. When bad light forced early stumps, South Africa had already taken a 11-run lead with five wickets remaining courtesy Den Elgar's classy unbeaten 140. Before that KL Rahul's 101 had taken India to 245, which many experts felt was a decent enough total. The start of India's bowling was not bad either as Mohammed Siraj dismissed Aiden Markram cheaply.
As the year 2023, draws to a close, it's a good time to look back at the last 12 months. The last year saw several good performances, with the highlight being Australia sixth ODI Cricket World Cup win. During the India vs South Test match, official broadcasters of series, displayed a ODI Team of the Year, which had eight Indians including Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul Kuldeep Yadav among others. Only one Australia Adam Zampa made the mark while from New Zealand Daryl Mitchell made the cut.
With Team India's backs against the wall, upstepped KL Rahul to deliver one of the finest innings of his career. The likes of Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, and Shreyas Iyer all faltered on a tricky pitch as India took on South Africa in 1st Test of the 2-match series. Rahul, forging little partnerships with lower-middle order batters and tailenders, registered his 8th Test century to take India to a respectable first innings total of 245 runs.
Legendary Indian cricket team batter Sunil Gavaskar believes that the presence of veteran star Ajinkya Rahane could have boosted India's top order in the first Test match against South Africa in Centurion on Tuesday. India struggled to get going after the rain-delayed start on Day 1 and none of the top-order batters were able to capitalise on their starts with Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal all losing their wickets early. Rahane has fallen out of favour with the team management and was not included for the South Africa series after less than satisfactory performances in the past. However, Gavaskar said that his overseas record would have proven crucial in the South African conditions.
Star Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya is likely be missing the T20I series against Afghanistan, but will be fit before the Indian Premier League (IPL) from his ankle injury, a source told ANI. Pandya was part of India's ICC Cricket World Cup squad. He played four matches, picking five wickets with the best bowling figures of 2/34 and scoring 11* against Australia in his only innings before an ankle injury sustained during a league stage game against Bangladesh on October 19 ruled him out of the tournament.
