Batter Suryakumar Yadav and pacer Jasprit Bumrah starred with impactful performances in their respective departments as India eased past Afghanistan by 47 runs in a T20 World Cup Super Eight clash on Thursday. Suryakumar's 53 off 28 steered the 2007 champions to 181 for 8 in 20 overs after captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to bat first at Kensington Oval, Barbados. Later, Jasprit Bumrah returned with exceptional figures of 3 for 7 in four overs to help India bundle out Afghanistan for 134 runs.

Indian cricket team star batter Virat Kohli has been struggling to score runs in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 and things got worse for him as he dropped an absolute sitter during the Super 8 encounter against Afghanistan on Thursday. During the second over of the Afghanistan innings, Ibrahim Zadran slammed a delivery from Arshdeep Singh straight to Kohli at backward point. Kohli timed his jump to perfection but the ball hit his hands and bounced away leaving skipper Rohit Sharma stunned. Even Kohli was visibly disappointed with his dropped catch before breaking into a sheepish smile.

India skipper Rohit Sharma on Thursday lauded the team for their comfortable 47-run victory over Afghanistan, attributing the clinical all-round display to better planning which was possible due to extensive knowledge about local conditions. India dishd out a superlative show as they posted 181 for 8 and then returned to dismiss Afghanistan for 134 to register a comfortable 47 run win. "The last two years we've played T20s here, so we understand the conditions and planned accordingly. We adapted well and got 180, which was a great effort from the batters. We had class bowlers who defended it perfectly," Rohit said during the post-match presentation.
