The Indian cricket team met Prime Minister Narendra Modi met after their return from a victorious ICC T20 World Cup campaign in the USA and West Indies on Thursday. Stuck in Barbados for three days after the final, the Indian team landed in New Delhi at 6:00 AM and met PM Modi around 11:00 AM at his residence. As the Indian team posed for pictures with PM Modi and the T20 World Cup trophy, an incredible visual unfolded. PM Modi didn't touch the T20 World Cup trophy, and only held the hands of captain Rohit Sharma and head coach Rahul Dravid.
Star batters Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma announced their shock retirements from the format after helping India win their second T20 World Cup last month in Barbados. Suryakumar Yadav's match-changing catch in the T20 World Cup final between India and South Africa has became a major talking point in the cricket spectrum. The incident happened on the first ball of the final over of South Africa's chase after David Miller skied Hardik Pandya's delivery towards long-off. The players and support staff members were all welcomed by fans, with an open bus parade on their way to the Wankhede Stadium, where a separate ceremony was organised to felicitate the team.
Former Indian cricket team head coach Rahul Dravid won hearts when he decided to forego half of the Rs 5 crore prize money which he was supposed to get from the pool of Rs 125 crore that the team received from BCCI for winning the T20 World Cup 2024 title. From the total prize money of Rs 125 crore given to the team, Dravid was supposed to get Rs 5 crore while other coaches were going to get Rs 2.5 crore each. However, Dravid took the decision to take the same amount as his support staff (bowling coach Paras Mhambrey, fielding coach T Dilip and batting coach Vikram Rathore). While Dravid was lauded by fans for his gesture, a report revealed that it was actually India captain Rohit Sharma who first offered to forego his prize money to make sure all the support staff were rewarded well.
