South Zone brought forth their all-round prowess to brush aside North East Zone by nine wickets in their Deodhar Trophy match on Friday. The South Zone bowlers, led by Vidwath Kaverappa and R Sai Kishore, bundled out NE Zone for a feeble 136 after the latter elected to bat first. South had little trouble in overhauling the target in just 19.3 overs as opener Rohan Kunnummal made an unbeaten fifty (87, 58 balls, 8x4, 5x6). The victory also saw South consolidating their position on top of the table with 12 points, and a superior net run rate (NRR) too helped their cause.

North Zone wicket-keeper Prabhsimran Singh pulled off a brilliant one-handed catch during the Deodhar Trophy match against South Zone to leave both experts and fans stunned. During the 39th over of the match, South Zone batter Ricky Bhui tried to play an unconventional shot off pacer Mayank Yadav but ended up miscuing it completely. The ball was travelling fast towards Prabhsimran but he pulled off a full-stretch dive to complete the catch. The video of the catch was shared by the Board for Cricket Control in India (BCCI) on Twitter and it has gone viral in no time.

Arjun Tendulkar Included In South Zone Squad For Deodhar Trophy

Legendary Sachin Tendulkar's son Arjun made it to the South Zone squad led by Mayank Agarwal that will take part in the upcoming Deodhar Trophy inter-zonal 50-over competition scheduled in Puducherry from July 24. The top performers from each of the south zone states have got a look-in with a few like B Sai Sudharsan being kept as standby as they will be playing the Emerging Asia Cup in Colombo from July 13-23. Tendulkar junior, a left-arm fast medium bowler and a hard-hitting lower-order batter, had made his debut for Mumbai Indians in the last edition of Indian Premier League and has been called up by the BCCI for an Emerging all-rounders' camp in August.

West Zone Win Duleep Trophy, Crush South Zone By 294 Runs

West Zone won the 2022 Duleep Trophy title after crushing South Zone by a massive margin of 294 runs on the fifth and final day of the summit showdown on Sunday. Set an improbable victory target of 529, South Zone were all out for 234 in the first session of the fifth morning, having resumed the day at a precarious 154 for six. Playing prominent roles in firing the West Zone to the big win were Yashasvi Jaiswal (265 in second innings), Sarfaraz Khan (127 in second innings) and the bowlers led by seasoned left-arm seamer Jaydev Unadkat.

Duleep Trophy Final: West Zone have one hand on trophy

Reeling at 156 for six at stumps on the fourth and penultimate day, South Zone were staring at a heavy defeat as they trailed by 375 runs. West Zone put up a mammoth 585 for four in their second innings after conceding a 57-run first-innings lead to their opponents. Prolific run-scorer Sarfaraz Khan recorded a fine, unbeaten century (127 off 178 balls) to continue West's charge after overnight double centurion Yashasvi Jaiswal was dismissed for 265 at the SNR College Cricket Ground.

Duleep Trophy: South Zone Crush North By 645 Runs, Set Up Title Date With West

Left-arm orthodox spinner R Sai Kishore's maiden match haul of 10 wickets ensured a staggering 645-run victory for South Zone over North to set up a clash with West Zone in the Duleep Trophy final starting on Wednesday. The margin of victory was one of the highest in Indian first-class cricket. West Zone also won their semi-final in commanding fashion beating Central Zone by a comfortable 279-run margin. The final will be played in Coimbatore from September 21, and it will be a five-day affair.

Meanwhile in Coimbatore, Prithvi Shaw's blistering 142 (140 balls, 15 fours, 4 sixes) helped West Zone set Central Zone a massive target of 501 in the other semifinal. Tamil Nadu spinner Sai Kishore, who has been impressive in the white ball formats, came up with a superb showing, snaring seven wickets including that of the talented Yash Dhull (39, 70 balls, 4 fours, 1 six) to help dismiss North Zone for 207 in 67 overs.
