Rohan Bopanna and his partner Matwe Middelkoop beat Santiago Gonzalez and Andres Molteni in the summit clash to claim the doubles title at the $1,019,855 ATP tennis tournament in Tel Aviv on Sunday. The top seeded Indo-Dutch pair notched up a 6-2, 6-4 win over the third seeded Gonzalez from Mexico and Argentina's Molteni in the final.
Prajnesh Gunneswaran will open India's Davis Cup World Group I tie campaign against Norway number one and US Open runner-up Casper Ruud while Ramkumar Ramanathan will be up against lower-ranked Viktor Durasovic in the singles matches on the first day in Lillehammer, Norway, on Friday. Rohan Bopanna has pulled out of India's upcoming Davis Cup tie against Norway due to a knee injury. India will play an away tie on September 16 and 17. The other members of the squad are Sumit Nagal, Ramkumar Ramathan, Prajnesh Gunneswaran, Yuki Bhambri and Mukund Sasikumar. "I have had to make a tough call this week against my constant love & devotion towards representing the country & withdraw from the Davis Cup team against Norway. I have an inflammation on my knee & have been advised to rest it before I start competing again," Bopanna tweeted.
While Bopanna lost both his opening round matches in both the men's doubles and mixed doubles events on Thursday, Ramanathan was shown the door in the opening round of men's doubles.
