PARIS : Pressure will be immense on Sunday when Novak Djokovic faces Casper Ruud in the French Open final with a record-breaking 23rd men's Grand Slam title and his position in the pantheon of tennis at stake.
Novak Djokovic made the most of his experience to outclass world no.1 Carlos Alcaraz Garfia in the first semi-final of the ongoing French Open. The two-time French Open champion, who is chasing a record 23rd men's Grand Slam title and third Roland Garros crown, defeated an ailing Alcaraz 6-2, 5-7, 6-1, 6-1 to become the oldest men's finalist in Paris since Bill Tilden in 1930. After making it a set apiece, Alcaraz barely moved in the third and fourth set due to his physical struggles, allowing Djokovic to breeze past him at Court Philippe Chatrier.
Peter Crouch and Jermaine Jenas both view Roger Federer as the greatest men’s tennis player of all time despite believing Novak Djokovic will end his career with the most Grand Slams. The GOAT debate has long featured in tennis across an era where Federer, Djokovic and Rafael Nadal have taken the game to new levels.
Novak Djokovic is no stranger to this situation — playing in the most anticipated match of the French Open, but it’s not the final.
PARIS : Carlos Alcaraz is primed to push for tennis greatness and his self-belief will be an important tool in achieving it, his coach Juan Carlos Ferrero said on Wednesday as the top seed prepares for his French Open semi-final showdown with Novak Djokovic.
Carlos Alcaraz put in one of the best performances of the year with an astonishing straight-sets 6-2 6-1 7-6(5) victory over Stefanos Tsitsipas to set up a mouthwatering clash with Novak Djokovic in the French Open semi-finals. The match between Alcaraz and Tsitsipas — pitting the first and fifth seeds together — was expected to be tight, but in truth that was rarely the case, with Alcaraz putting in a highlight reel of a display that felt like it was taking the game to a new level thanks to his hybrid game style that at once is comparable to all of the greats that have come before him — Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Djokovic.
Novak Djokovic has come back after dropping a set for the first time in the tournament to beat Karen Khachanov 4-6, 7-6 (0), 6-2, 6-4 at the French Open on Tuesday to reach his 45th career Grand Slam semifinal.
