SYDNEY : Australia's Nick Kyrgios proved last year that he can play as well as anyone in the world and the 27-year-old heads into the main draw at his home Grand Slam for the 10th time next week with expectations high, not least from himself.
Rod Laver says he thinks Nick Kyrgios didn't believe he could win the Wimbledon final earlier this year against Novak Djokovic. Laver, fresh from being present at the eponymous Laver Cup event in London which saw Roger Federer's farewell from tennis, now believes however that the experience of appearing in his first Grand Slam final could be the making of Kyrgios ahead of the 2023 season. Ad Kyrgios was last in action at the US Open where he lost in the quarter-finals to Karen Khachanov, but is expected to appear at the Tokyo Open early next month.

Novak Djokovic confirmed Friday that he will join Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer and Andy Murray in a dream Team Europe line-up at the Laver Cup that reunites the former "Big Four". Bjorn Borg's European team will take on John McEnroe's Team World in the fifth edition of the event at London's O2 Arena from September 23 to 25. Seven-time Wimbledon champion Djokovic will be appearing at the Laver Cup for the first time since 2018, when it was held in Chicago.
