Matthew Mott was on Wednesday named as head coach of England's men's white-ball teams on a four-year contract.
James Anderson and Stuart Broad have been recalled in Brendon McCullum's first England squad to take on New Zealand in a three-Test series next month, with Harry Brook and Matthew Potts receiving their first call-ups.
James Anderson and Stuart Broad returned to the England Test squad on Wednesday for the first two Tests against New Zealand next month. The three-match home series will mark the beginning of Ben Stokes' tenure as England's Test captain and will be the first assignment of their newly-appointed red-ball coach and former New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum. Anderson and Broad, first and second on England's all-time list of Test wicket takers with 1,177 between them, were omitted from the three-match series in West Indies where the team lost 1-0 and eventually led to Joe Root's resignation as the captain. Anderson said the snub prompted him to consider retirement. "This is the start of a new era for our Test team under the stewardship of Ben and Brendon," managing director Rob Key said in a statement issued by the England and Wales Cricket Board. "With a blend of youth and experience, we have selected an exciting squad that can compete with New Zealand in next month's Test series."
Former Australian women's team coach Matthew Mott has been appointed the new head coach for England men's white-ball team. The England and Wales Cricket Board on Wednesday announced that the Australian has signed a four-year contract and is set to take charge starting with England's three-match ODI series against The Netherlands in Amsterdam next month. "It is a real privilege to be able to announce Mathew Mott as the Head Coach of our men's white-ball team," England men's team managing director Rob Key was quoted as saying in an ECB release.
Veteran seamers James Anderson and Stuart Broad are back in England's Test side as the England and Wales Cricket Board on Wednesday named a 13-strong squad to face New Zealand in a two-match series at home. Anderson and Broad were left out of England's squad for the tour of West Indies, which they lost 0-1. The series against New Zealand will also be England's first under new Test skipper Ben Stokes and coach Brendon McCullum. Yorkshire batter Harry Brook and Durham seamer Matthew Potts have got their maiden call-ups for England.
England’s red-ball new dawn has seen two uncapped 23-year-olds get their first chance of international glory and second chances handed to the country’s two most experienced bowlers of all time, as the team seeks to improve their recently moribund fortunes under the stewardship of Brendon McCullum.
Tom Harrison is to step down as chief executive of the England and Wales Cricket Board in June - part of a major overhaul following a slump in Test results.
