Rishabh Pant Recalls "Turning Point" In Career, When He Took Painkillers To Bat

Since making his India debut in 2017 in a T20I match vs England, Rishabh Pant has been through plenty of ups and downs in his young career. From being heralded as MS Dhoni's successor and being criticized for his mistakes, to cementing his spot in the India playing XI, Pant is now being considered a future captain for the national team. Speaking to Jemimah Rodrigues on Dream11, the wicketkeeper-batter opened up about the "turning point" in his career which made him a fan-favourite and also a crucial cog in India's playing XI.

Australia series turning point of my life: Rishabh Pant

Rishabh Pant says the tour of Australia in 2020-21 is the "turning point of my life" as he helped India save one game and win another despite taking painkiller injection after struggling to hold the bat. The 24-year-old Pant played two of his greatest knocks in the last two Tests in Sydney and Brisbane as an injury-ravaged Indian team recorded an incredible come-from-behind Test series triumph. However, all was not well with Pant prior to that as the swashbuckling keeper-batter was dropped from India's limited-overs set-up before the 2019 ODI World Cup. Speaking to Indian women's team cricketer Jemimah Rodrigues on Dream11's YouTube channel, Pant recalled how he stopped talking to everyone after being dropped from the squad.

Vikram Rathour Outlines Rishabh Pant's Role For Team India In White-Ball Cricket

Since his heroics in the 2020-21 Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Rishabh Pant has become a fan favourite for Indian cricket team fans. But it's not been all plain sailing in the past for the wicketkeeper-batter with critics constantly after him and fans lashing out at him for his inconsistency. He also faced intense competition from Wriddhiman Saha for away Tests, with the latter also starting in the first Test against Australia in December 2020. But ever since his 89-run knock at the Gabba, which handed Australia their first loss at the venue in 32 years, Pant has gone on to become an automatic selection and is also being touted as a future national team skipper.

IPL 2022: We could have batted well, feels Delhi captain Rishabh Pant after loss against Gujarat

Gujarat Titans in their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 clash on Saturday, Delhi Capitals' skipper Rishabh Pant said that the team could have batted well in the middle overs. Shubman Gill's 84-run knock and Lockie Ferguson's four-wicket haul guide Gujarat to a 14-run win here at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium. "I think according to the wicket, that total was not so big. We could have batted well, especially in the middle overs. We lost three wickets in the powerplay and three in the middle (overs). I think every match is going to be hard after losing so many wickets," said Pant in a post-match presentation.

IPL 2022: Lockie Ferguson's over changed momentum, says Gujarat Titans' captain Hardik Pandya

Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League match on Saturday, Delhi Capitals were very much in the game at 118/4, with skipper Rishabh Pant still at the crease. But a double blow from Lockie Ferguson in the 15th over, first to dismiss Pant for 43 and then Axar Patel, tilted the match in Gujarat's favour. The Hardik Pandya-led Gujarat ultimately won by 14 runs here at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium. "Not bad, to be honest. Very happy with the way everyone is stepping up on the right occasion...That over from Lockie changed the momentum," said Hardik at the post-match presentation ceremony.

IPL 2022, GT vs DC: Ferguson, Gill star in Gujarat Titans' win over Delhi Capitals

Lockie Ferguson may not steam in like former Kiwi expressman Shane Bond or possess the rhythmic run-up ex-South African pacer Dale Steyn had. His run-up, a gentle amble to the crease, belies the speed at which he going to deliver the ball. What he brings to the mix is a mean bouncer and a quick off-cutter, which on Saturday led to the undoing of Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant and allrounder Axar Patel at Pune's Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) stadium. AS IT HAPPENEDThe two wickets Ferguson took in the 15th over had a profound impact. In pursuit of the Titans' 171, Capitals ended 14 runs short, giving the debutants an unbeaten start to their maiden IPL campaign. Ferguson ended with figures of 4/28 off his four overs. Ferguson had enjoyed another double strike earlier in the fourth over, getting rid of dangerous opener Prithvi Shaw and Mandeep Singh. An astute Pandya brought Ferguson back in the 15th over with the match evenly poised, and the New Zealander's second double strike sealed the issue. Pant and Lalit Yadav had resurrected the Capitals' innings from 34/3 with a 61-run fourth-wicket stand before the latter was run-out looking for a non-existent single.

After posing a total of 171 for six, on the back of Shubman Gill's knock of 84, GT managed to restrict DC to a total of 157 for nine. Lockie Ferguson was the star with the ball, taking four for 28 from his quota of four overs.
