After the 106-run loss to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) match, Delhi Capitals (DC) head coach Ricky Ponting said that he was embarrassed with his side's first half of the game and how his side conceded too many runs while bowling at a slow-over rate. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) produced a remarkable performance in all facets of the game against Delhi Capitals in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 at the ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam on Wednesday.
Former Australian cricketer Tom Moody stated that wicketkeeper-batter Prithvi Shaw's omission from the Delhi Capitals' (DC) playing XI "doesn't make sense" and suggested that DC should select 24-year-old batter for their upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 matches. Moody pointed out that, while Shaw has been unimpressive in recent seasons, selecting him over Bhui is a more plausible option given his international cricket experience. "It doesn't make sense due to the fact that you've got an Indian international player (Prithvi Shaw) in the dugout. Yes, he hasn't performed in the IPL like we had all hoped he would, but you can't score runs from the dugout," speaking to ESPNcricinfo Moody stated.
The IPL 2024 match between Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Capitals on Thursday saw a break in match proceedings due to a confusion over tournament rules regarding the use of a foreign player as a substitute fielder. DC head coach Ricky Ponting and director of cricket Sourav Ganguly were seen having a chat with the fourth umpire when RR decided to field Rovman Powell as a substitute fielder. RR started the match with three overseas players - Jos Buttler, Shimron Hetmyer, and Trent Boult - and decided to bring Nandre Burger as their impact player in place of Hetmyer.
Mumbai Indians (MI) star batter and former Indian Premier League (IPL) skipper Rohit Sharma is playing his 200th match in the league for his franchise on Wednesday. He has been named in the playing XI for the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad. SRH and MI are taking on each other in an IPL 2024 clash in Hyderabad. Both teams started with narrow losses of four runs and six runs to the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Gujarat Titans (GT), respectively, in their campaign openers.
Holi was celebrated with much fervour all over India. Even the IPL stars celebrated Holi in the middle of the rigorous schedule. Mumbai Indians celebrated the festival of Holi today before heading to Hyderabad for their next encounter with SunRisers Hyderabad on the 27th of March. Holi, the festival of colours, love and friendship merges with the Indian Premier League (IPL), the grandest spectacle in world cricket. When these two festivals, both driven by the objective of inclusivity and joy, come together, it creates a mesmerizing sight.
Delhi Capitals (DC) head coach Ricky Ponting has backed captain Rishabh Pant to do "something special" in their opening match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season against Punjab Kings (PBKS). Pant will mark his return to competitive cricket on Saturday as DC face PBKS at the Mullanpur Stadium in Mohali. Pant had suffered a life-threatening car crash in December 2022, and the DC skipper has been out of action since then. However, the 26-year-old managed pull off a remarkable recovery during his rehab process.
Delhi Capitals head coach Ricky Ponting on Thursday said skipper Rishabh Pant is putting in extra effort to get the "trust back" in his body for the upcoming IPL following the horrific accident that sidelined him for 14 months. India wicketkeeper Pant suffered a near-fatal accident in December 2022, which resulted in a year-long recovery phase and forced him to skip last year's IPL. "He (Pant) has probably batted more in the last week than he has ever batted leading into most of the IPLs. I think from his point of view, he wants to get a bit of trust back in his body again," said Ponting on the skipper's approach at the pre-season camp. "He has been putting himself through a few different paces and playing all the shots that he plays. He has been great, and more importantly, he has got a smile on his face, which is what all we love to see," added the former Australian captain.
