Fresh from his maiden Test five-wicket haul at home, Indian pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah jumped six spots to fourth but struggling star batter Virat Kohli slipped to ninth in the latest ICC rankings released on Wednesday. Ravindra Jadeja climbed to the top of the ICC player Test rankings for all-rounders with a sparkling performance against Sri Lanka in the opening Test in Mohali. The 33-year-old was plain brilliant with both the bat and ball as India thrashed Sri Lanka by an innings and 222 runs to take a 1-0 lead in the two-match series. After his all-round heroics, the Sri Lankan team will already be wary of Jadeja and his record in Bengaluru will be making them even more nervous.
India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja could achieve a huge personal milestone when India face Sri Lanka in the second Test (D/N), starting at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Saturday. Jadeja, who will be playing his 59th Test for India, is just nine wickets away from completing 250 wickets in the longest format of the game. If Jadeja manages to take nine or more wickets against Sri Lanka in the day-night Test, he will become the 3rd quickest Indian to reach this landmark after Ravichandran Ashwin and Anil Kumble.
India demolished Sri Lanka by an innings and 222 runs in the first Test at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali. India won the toss and dominated the match from the outset. Rohit Sharma got India off to a fast start but was dismissed for 29 off 28 balls while attempting a pull shot. Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar said that while the pull might be a productive shot for Rohit, he should put it in "cold storage" till he reaches a big enough score.
India's Ravindra Jadeja has returned as the world's number one-ranked all-rounder after his stand-out effort with bat and ball against Sri Lanka, the International Cricket Council said Wednesday.
