India vs England 5th Test Day 1: Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal Pummel England After Kuldeep Yadav, Ravichandran Ashwin Spin Show

The fragility of England batters against high-quality spin was exposed once again before India showed them how to bat on a flat track by cruising to 135 for one at stumps on day one of the fifth and final Test in Dharamshala on Thursday. Opting to bat, England were all at sea against the mastery of left-arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav whose fourth five-wicket haul in Tests allowed India to bowl out the visitors for 218 in their first innings shortly after tea. Playing his 100th Test, R Ashwin cleaned up the tail with four wickets while Ravindra Jadeja took one. Contrary to expectations, all 10 wickets went to the spinners at the scenic HPCA Stadium and the last seven batsmen fell while adding only 43 runs.

Celebrating the landmark moment for Ravichandran Ashwin, the Indian cricket team players decided to give the veteran off-spinner a guard of honour as he walked out on the Dharamsala ground to feature in a Test match for the 100th time. The moment of reckoning came for Ashwin as India took on England in the 5th and final Test of the series on Thursday. As players lined up in two rows for Ashwin's guard of honour, the spinner went to skipper Rohit Sharma and gave him a hug.

"My Wife Didn't Know What She Was Getting Into": R Ashwin's Emotional Tribute On 100th Test

“Test cricket is the closest synergy that you can find to life.” Ravichandran Ashwin's voice trembled with emotion and pride during the gratitude-speech after receiving his special 100th Test cap from India head coach Rahul Dravid here on Thursday. But Ashwin did not restrict that landmark moment, which came during the fifth and final Test against England, to himself but he championed the cause of Test cricket amidst money-spinning T20 leagues.

"When I Reached Hospital, Mom Was...": R Ashwin On 'Medical Emergency'

Lying in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of a Chennai hospital, Chitra Ravichandran was slipping in and out of consciousness but she had just one query for her son Ravichandran Ashwin when she saw him by her bedside -- "Why did you come?" Hours after becoming only the second Indian bowler after Anil Kumble to take 500 Test wickets, Ashwin rushed back to his home in Chennai during the third game against England in Rajkot after coming to know that his mother had been hospitalised following a blackout.

India vs England Live Score, 5th Test Match Day 1:After sealing the series with a sin in the fourth Test, the Rohit Sharma-led Indian cricket team will aim to increase the margin when it takes on the Ben Stokes-led England cricket team. After a long gap, the series resumes at the picturesque HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala. India's ace spinner will be eyeing his milestone 100th Test. "No Praise Enough": Rohit Sharma's Epic Take On R Ashwin's 100th Test

No praise is enough for Ravichandran Ashwin, said captain Rohit Sharma on Wednesday, lauding the off-spinner ahead of his 100th Test as a "rare" talent critical for the team's success. The fifth and final Test against England, starting here on Thursday, is inconsequential to the final outcome of the series as India have already taken an unbeaten 3-1 lead. But it has become significant due to the 100-Test milestone set to be achieved by Ashwin and England batter Jonny Bairstow.

"Aunty Collapsed, I Dialled Cheteswar Pujara": R Ashwin's Wife Prithi Narrates Rajkot Test Emergency

Veteran India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin had to take a leave of absence after the second day's play of the Rajkot Test against England. Ashwin, who had reached the 500 wickets milestone the same day, addressed the press conference after the end of the final session and immediately jetted off to home. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said that it was a 'family emergency' that prompted Ashwin to take a flight back home and it was later found out that the situation had something to do with his mother's health. While Ashwin himself hasn't spoken about the matter yet, his wife Prithi explained the matter in a column she penned ahead of the cricketer's 100th Test.

"R Ashwin Cut Off My Calls, That's The Respect We Get": Ex India Star Slams Veteran Spinner

Veteran India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin is on the cusp of his 100th Test. With 99 matches in the India whites to his name, Ashwin will feature in the longest format of the game for the 100th time as the national team takes on England in the 5th match of the series in Dharamsala, starting Thursday. As the entire cricketing fraternity is going ga-ga over Ashwin's moment of history, former India spinner Laxman Sivaramakrishnan isn't happy with the way he has been treated by the veteran spinner.
