Indian Davis Cupper Ramkumar Ramanathan made a remarkable comeback to shock top seeded Luka Nardi to enter the singles quarterfinals of the Bengaluru Open on Wednesday. Ramkumar, a wildcard entrant, prevailed over the Italian 1-6, 6-4, 6-4 in little over two hours in their pre-quarterfinal match at the KSLTA Stadium. The match began on an ominous note for the Indian star as Nardi broke his serve in the very first game of the opening set. From that point onwards, Ramkumar was not able to offer any kind of fight to his higher-ranked opponent, who used a heavy first serve and precise ground shots to choke his opponent. While Nardi landed a whopping 86 percent of his first serve inside the box, Ramanathan barely managed to cross the 50 percent mark.

India's Ramkumar Ramanathan and Saketh Myneni breezed into the quarterfinals of the Bengaluru Open with a straight-set victory over the Italian pair of Jacopo Berrettini and Enrico Dalla Valle in Bengaluru on Wednesday. The India duo, who are the defending champions here, won 6-3, 7-6 (4) in one hour and 14 minutes. Ramkumar and Myneni stormed to a 4-1 lead in the first set after breaking the serve in the fourth game. They wrapped up the opening set in under 30 minutes but faced stiff resistance in the second, as Berrettini and Dalla Valle broke the favourites in the sixth game.

Unseeded Indian Ramkumar Ramanathan pulled off an upset win against top seed Elias Ymer of Sweden to enter the final qualifying round of the Maha Open ATP Challenger 100 tennis championship in Pune on Sunday. The 30-year-old Ramanathan took revenge of his Davis Cup loss last year against the top seeded Swede, winning 5-7,6-1,6-4 in the match that lasted one hour and 52 minutes. The 28-year-old Ymer played solid tennis to wrap up the first set. But Ramanathan fought back with his attacking serve and volley game to win the second set.

The organiser of the Delhi Open -- an ATP Challenger event -- on Saturday announced wild card entries for three Davis Cuppers -- Sasikumar Mukund, Ramkumar Ramanathan and young Karan Singh -- in the men's singles main draw. Defending champions Ramkumar Ramanathan and Saketh Myneni entered the doubles final of the Chennai Open ATP Challenger with a hard-fought win over top seeds Ray Ho and Matthew Christopher Romios in Chennai on Friday. The third seeded Indian pair registered a 7-6 (5), 7-6 (8) victory over their rivals from Taipei and Australia. They will face unseeded Japanese duo of Shintaro Mochizuki and Kaito Uesugi, a 4-6, 6-4, 10-6 winners over second seeded Indians Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan and Vijay Sundar Prashanth, for the title. Ramkumar Ramanathan and N Sriram Balaji could play well only in patches in the do-or-die doubles encounter and later Siddharth Vishwakarma lost on debut as India went down 0-4 to Sweden in the Davis Cup World Group I tie in Stockholm on Sunday. N Sriram Balaji was easily tamed by Elias Ymer while Ramkumar Ramanathan lacked the killer instinct even against a lower-ranked Leo Borg as India were left trailing 0-2 against Sweden in the Davis Cup World Group I tie, on Saturday. Balaji, who is a doubles specialist, found the going tough against Ymer, who raced to a 6-4 6-2 win in the opening singles. Ramkumar, who is a seasoned Davis Cupper now, was expected to bring India back into the tie but he lost to 603-ranked Borg, son of the legendary Bjorn Borg 3-6 3-6, in the second singles at the Royal Tennis Hall.
