World number one Novak Djokovic finally got his season under way in Dubai on Monday, playing for the first time this year after being deported from Australia for not being vaccinated.

Novak Djokovic's season, derailed in January when he was deported from Australia, finally starts on Monday in Dubai with the world number one insisting players in the locker room "have been positive and welcoming" on his return. Djokovic missed the chance to win a 10th Australian Open, and 21st Grand Slam, due to the cancellation of his visa in Melbourne and eventual deportation as a result of not being vaccinated. He returns to the tour this week in the Emirates, where he will be competing for the first time since the Davis Cup Finals in Madrid last December.
Rafael Nadal insists Novak Djokovic “is welcome” to return to Grand Slam tennis without being vaccinated if the rules allow it, adding that the Serbian’s continued absence from majors will only “affect his own story”.

World no.5 Rafael Nadal is all set to play his first tournament after winning the Australian Open 2022 title as he takes on Reilly Opelka of the USA in the opening round of the ATP 500 event Abierto Mexicano Telcel to be played at the Arena GNP Seguros. The 21-time grand slam champion will enter the tournament as the fourth seed. Nadal and Opelka are meeting each other for the second time. The last time they met each other was in the semi-finals of Rome Masters 2021, the Spaniard winning it 6-4, 6-4.
