Proteas spinner Keshav Maharaj has cracked the top 10 of the ICC T20 bowler rankings following South Africa's T20 series loss against India.
After clinching the T20I series 2-1, India are currently taking on South Africa in the first ODI in Lucknow. Proteas were put into bat first and openers Quinton de Kock and Jaaneman Malan gave South Africa a decent start. However, the Indian bowlers made a strong comeback, taking three wickets in the space of 22 runs. Shadrul Thakur struck twice to dismiss Malan and Temba Bavuma, while Kuldeep Yadav castled Aiden Markram on a duck.
Former Proteas skipper AB de Villiers has come out in full support of under-fire Temba Bavuma as the current limited overs national captain desperately searches for form ahead of the T20 World Cup, which takes place in Australia later this month.
Suryakumar Yadav lost his top position in the ICC T20I list by a few ranking points to Mohammed Rizwan of Pakistan, who has regained his pole position in the latest standings published on Wednesday. The difference between the two is a mere 16 ranking points with Rizwan reclaiming his top spot with 854 points and Surya in second spot with 838. Surya continued his stunning rise in 2022 by finishing India's recent T20I series at home against South Africa with two half centuries and as their leading run scorer with a total of 119 runs.
Rilee Rossouw believes his spectacular return to form in Tuesday's victory over India in the third T20 is the perfect illustration of why the Proteas need to stick with struggling skipper Temba Bavuma.
Finding form is only a matter of time as long as one remains confident about their abilities, said South Africa batter Rilee Rossouw after smashing a memorable hundred against India following two zeroes in the first two T20s. Having made his international debut back in 2014, Rossouw has been in and out of the South African side, featuring in 36 ODIs and 21 T20s. However, he has made a name for himself in franchise cricket having played all around the world.
There has been a heated debate in the cricketing fraternity after India's Deepti Sharma ran England's Charlie Dean out at the non-striker's end during a women's ODI recently. However, ICC's rule book suggests that a bowler can do the same if the non-striker is out of the crease. During the third T20I between India and South Africa, pacer Deepak Chahar, too, had the chance to dismiss South Africa's Tristan Stubbs at the non-striker's end, but he decided against it. The incident happened in the 16th over when Chahar was about to bowl the first ball but stopped just short.
Boundary rope catches aren't the easiest to take. Players have to show not just excellent ability to track the trajectory of the ball but also be aware of the distance between them and the rope. India's Mohammed Siraj couldn't keep this delicate balance as he looked to catch a shot by South Africa's David Miller in the 3rd T20I in Indore on Tuesday.
