SAKHIR, Bahrain (AP) — AlphaTauri driver Pierre Gasly had the fastest time in Formula One pre-season testing on Thursday, where much focus was on the new-look Mercedes car and American team Haas missing the morning start after some of its equipment didn't arrive on time.
The first day of F1's final pre-season test began with a change of schedule for the Woking team as Daniel Ricciardo, who was due to run in the morning, did not feel well.
Pierre Gasly in an AlphaTauri topped the opening day of Formula One pre-season testing in Bahrain on Thursday with the Ferraris of Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc filling out the top three. The three-day session is taking place at the same Sakhir circuit where the first race of the 2022 championship will be staged on March 20. Mercedes and Red Bull dominated the opening three-day test in Barcelona last month.
AlphaTauri’s Pierre Gasly recorded the fastest time at Day 1 of testing at the Bahrain Grand Prix circuit. Bahrain will hold the season’s first event on March 20 after the postponement of the usual campaign-starter, the Australian Grand Prix.
AlphaTauri’s Pierre Gasly led the pack out of the pits when the first four-hour session of the three-day event got underway at 10am local time – the Frenchman’s car adorned with an enormous aerodynamic-load measuring rake.
