Ferrari's Charles Leclerc beat Red Bull's Max Verstappen to pole position in a thrilling qualifying session at the start of Formula 1's new era.
Leclerc pipped Red Bull driver Verstappen by 0.123s in the third and final segment of the one-hour qualifying session, in which five cars are knocked out in Q1 and Q2 before the Q3 top-10 shootout.
Charles Leclerc proved the pre-season suggestion that Ferrari would be back at the front of the field absolutely right as he took pole position ahead of Max Verstappen in qualifying for the Bahrain Grand Prix.
Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc claimed pole position at the Bahrain Grand Prix on Saturday evening, with Red Bull's Max Verstappen second. Verstappen was 0.129 seconds behind, and the success proved that the praise for the Italian side from the Austrian team, and Mercedes too, was well earned. Ad/> Third place was taken by champion Verstappen's teammate, Sergio Perez.
