BROOKLINE, Mass. : Phil Mickelson said he hoped to "create new memories" with the PGA Tour after the U.S. golf circuit suspended him for joining the Saudi-backed LIV Golf Invitational Series amid a continuing outcry ahead of this week's U.S. Open.
Jay Monahan is the man behind the scenes, the string puller, but the PGA Tour commissioner was thrust front and centre when the LIV Golf Series kicked off. All scenarios were hypothetical until a ball was struck. Within half an hour of the tee shots in St Albans, Monahan issued a statement saying all players taking part in LIV Golf would be suspended from the PGA Tour.

PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan has continued his feud with the controversial LIV Golf Series, labelling the eight-event series an exhibition, whilst sending out a fierce warning to those that have competed. The inaugural event of the Saudi-backed breakaway circuit was played out in St Albans last week, with world No. 117 Charl Schwartzel taking home the £3.8 million winning prize money.
