Former Australia Test captain Tim Paine retired from cricket with little fanfare on Friday, bowing out after playing an inter-state match in Tasmania. Paine led Australia between 2018 and 2021 after Steve Smith was stripped of the captaincy in the wake of the "Sandpaper-gate" ball-tampering incident against South Africa. MUMBAI : India's middle-order batter KL Rahul struck an unbeaten 75 to anchor their nervy chase against Australia in a low-scoring contest and secure a five-wicket win in the opening one-day international on Friday.

After a 2-1 triumph in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, India shift their focus to the 3-match ODI series against Australia that could set the precedent for future. With Rohit Sharma out of the first ODI due to family commitments, Hardik Pandya has been given the responsibility to lead the team.
After winning the Test series 2-1 against Australia, hosts India would aim to start the ODI series between the sides on a dominating note. Regular captain Rohit Sharma won't be available for the first game and hence Hardik Padya would be leading the Indian side. On the other hand, Australia skipper Pat Cummins -- who lost his mother recently -- will be missing the entire series. It will be Steve Smith, who will lead the guests in Cummins' absence. The fiirst match will take place at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium.
Mumbai : Australia's Mitchell Marsh is confident the abundance of all-rounders in their squad will serve them well in India, both in the upcoming one-day series and at the 50-overs World Cup later this year.
