Australia's World Cup winners Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins had more reasons to celebrate a spectacular 2023 as they landed record deals during the IPL 2024 player auction at the Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai on Tuesday.
The IPL 2024 auction was expected to grab headlines, and it did not disappoint as Australia’s World Cup winners Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins landed the biggest contracts in the history of the tournament.
Records tumbled at the IPL Players Auction 2024 as Australia pacer Mitchell Starc became the costliest buy in the history of the tournament, surpassing teammate Pat Cummins. Starc was bought by KKR for Rs 24.75 following a bidding war with Gujarat Titans. This comes after Cummins was bought Rs 20.5 crore during the same auction by SunRisers Hyderabad. Despite spending more than half of their purse amount on Starc, KKR finished the auction with nine more players in the bag. The two-time champions, however, pulled off one of the biggest bargains by signing young England pacer Gus Atkinson.
After missing out on Australia captain Pat Cummins, who was sold for Rs 20.5 crore by SRH, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) went all in for West Indies pacer Alzarri Joseph. Joseph, who came in with a base price of Rs 1 crore, was involved in a bidding war between RCB, Delhi Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Capitals and Lucknow Super Kings. RCB eventually got him for Rs 11.5 crore. Yash Dayal, who released by Gujarat Titans ahead of the auction, was also bought by the franchise for Rs 5 crore.

While Dubey was picked by Rajasthan Royals for Rs 5.8 crore, Rizvi ended up with Chennai Super Kings for a massive amount of Rs 8.4 crore. Both cricketers come with proven track records in the domestic circuit and their performances as a finisher made them attractive commodities for the franchises. While Dubey plays for Vidarbha in domestic cricket, Rizvi plays for Uttar Pradesh.
