Chopra, who came into the final as the favourite with a brilliant effort of 89.34 metres in the qualifying, threw the javelin to 89.45, his second-best ever effort a clear improvement on the 87.58 that bagged him the gold medal in Tokyo. But that did not prove enough for the reigning World Champion and Diamond League final winner as Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem, his good friend on the circuit, upstaged him by setting the Olympic Record to win the gold medal.
Morocco's Soufiane El Bakkali retained his Olympic 3000m steeplechase title on Wednesday to become just the third Arab to win double gold as world record holder Lamecha Girma suffered a worrying fall, at Paris Olympics 2024. El Bakkali timed 8min 06.05sec for victory with American Kenneth Rooks taking silver in 8:06.41 and Kenya's Abraham Kibiwot claiming bronze (8:06.47). Ethiopia's Girma was left prone on the track after falling at a hurdle before being eventually stretchered off.

Neeraj Chopra pulled off a season best attempt of 89.45m in the Paris Olympics 2024 javelin final but it was not enough to clinch the gold medal. The defending world champion had to be satisfied with the silver as Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem broke the Olympic record with a throw of 92.97m. Both Neeraj and Nadeem committed fouls in their respective first attempts but the Pakistani athlete stunned everyone with his second throw. The fans at the Stade de France in Paris were left in shock as Arshad's second attempt went for 92.97m and as a result, he broke the Olympic record by more than 2 metres. Neeraj's second attempt was his season's best at 89.45m but it was nothing compared to Nadeem's mammoth effort.
