JEDDAH: Ballon d’Or winner and former Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema, former Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante and Portuguese and former Celtic winger Jota have joined Saudi Pro League champions Al-Ittihad’s summer training camp in Taif, as the team intensify preparations ahead of the 2023 Arab Club Champions Cup later this month.
RIYADH: There is no stopping Al-Hilal when it comes to the transfer market at the moment.
What an amazing week for Al-Ittihad fans. Days after winning their first Roshn Saudi League title since 2009, French superstar striker Karim Benzema was confirmed to be joining the Jeddah club from Real Madrid.
A Roshn Saudi League campaign like no other is in the books.
The pressure may have been off Al-Ittihad in Jeddah on Wednesday but the celebratory atmosphere will never be forgotten by those present at the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium. The memories will last longer than the 2-0 win over Al-Tai as fans heralded their heroes and first title-winners since 2009.
Al-Ittihad are Saudi Arabian champions for the first time since 2009 after defeating Al-Fayha 3- 0 on Saturday in the penultimate round of fixtures in the Roshn Saudi League. Second-placed Al-Nassr came back to draw 1-1 at Ettifaq but it was not enough as Ittihad’s win ended an exciting title race. It is a well-deserved triumph for coach Nuno Santo and his players who saw off the challenge of Cristiano Ronaldo and Al-Nassr to lift a hard-fought and deserved prize.
RIYADH: Thanks to the efforts of Cristiano Ronaldo and Al-Hilal, the Roshn Saudi League title race was blown wide open on Tuesday evening. At half-time, Al-Ittihad were 2-1 ahead at Al-Hilal and seven points clear of Al-Nassr in second.
