Rajasthan Royals (RR) thrashed SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) by 61 runs at the MCA Stadium in Pune on Tuesday. Put in to bat, RR posted 210/6 before restricting SRH to 149/7. Former India opener Wasim Jaffer was not best pleased with SRH's performance and criticised Kane Williamson's captaincy, pointing out that he wasn't on the ball tactically. Speaking to ESPNcricinfo, he noted a few bowling changes and adjustments to their batting lineup that could have helped the team perform better in their opening match.
Rajasthan first team to defend total in this IPL after SRH horror show chasing 211Rajasthan Royals couldn't have asked for a better start to their campaign in IPL 2022. After a batting carnage led by skipper Sanju Samson (55; 27b, 4x3, 6x3) took them to the confines of 210 for six at the MCA Stadium in Pune on Tuesday, they dished out an impeccable bowling effort to carve out a 61-run victory. AS IT HAPPENED | SCORECARD | POINTS TABLEJust as the wayward Sunrisers Hyderabad attack allowed the Royals to run away with the match, their batsmen floundered in the wake of excellent bowling first up by Trent Boult and Prasidh Krishna, whose fourth over wicket maiden, clearly killed the contest as the Sunrisers were restricted to 149/7, thanks in the main to the 55-run seventh wicket stand between Aiden Markram (57; 41b, 4x5, 6x2) and Washington Sundar (40, 14b, 4x5, 6x2). Prasidh's Karnataka teammate Devdutt Padikkal (41; 29b, 4x4, 6x2), who was equally effective with the willow earlier, was ready for the opportunity at slip after Samson spilled a Kane Williamson catch and Rahul Tripathi was undone soon as Sunrisers got off to a poor start made worse by Nicholas Pooran failing to bother the scorers.
Rajasthan Royals started their Indian Premier League campaign with a thumping 61-run victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad in Pune on Tuesday.
Sunrisers Hyderabad have been in the Indian Premier League - since they joined late in 2013 - they have lost six of their opening fixtures. But that fact is likely to weigh less heavily on them as against the fact that they were way below par last season, when they finished last with just three wins and 11 losses. Kane Williamson's elbow injury and his non-availability, David Warner's poor form and their formidable bowling attack blunted by the form issues of Bhuvneshwar Kumar and T Natarajan's surgery may all have contributed to a wretched 2021 season. But like all teams, they too have refurbished their squad with some new personnel, some old and retained most of the young turks from the previous season.
SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) will face the Rajasthan Royals in their first match of this season's Indian Premier League (IPL) on Tuesday, March 29. SRH had a disastrous campaign last season as they finished at the bottom of the points table. Ahead of the auction last month, SRH retained just three players, including skipper Kane Williamson, who will have huge task on his hands, following the departures of David Warner and Jonny Bairstow. However, the 2016 champions did make a few good signings at the auction.
Nicholas Pooran has said that one bad IPL season is not going to change the player in him and he is now keen to give his 100 percent for his franchise, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the upcoming 2022 season of the cash-rich league. The 26-year-old had a disappointing IPL 2021, where he averaged just 7.75 with the bat for Punjab Kings. However, SRH still showed faith in the attacking batter and bought him for Rs 10.75 crore in the mega auction.
