Trinbago Knight Riders became the first cricket team to receive a red card on Sunday, with Sunil Narine paying the penalty for his team's slow overs-rate in a Caribbean Premier League (CPL) match.
In T20 cricket, the Indian cricket team is still battling the long-tail problem. Even head coach Rahul Dravid admitted that there's a shortfall of all-rounders in the team. The 5th T20I between India and West Indies even saw Tilak Varma bowl, taking the prized wicket of Nicholas Pooran. While Varma and Yashasvi Jaiswal have been backed to bowl more often by the Indian team management, even former cricketers are lining up, backing this approach by the Indian team.
Down 0-2 in the T20I series against West Indies, India started their comeback by beating the hosts in the 3rd T20I. The key to the Indian team's success was the fact that West Indies' hard-hitter Nicholas Pooran had failed to fire in the match. After the game, India skipper Hardik Pandya even issued a challenge to Pooran, saying he is hoping the Windies stalwart comes hard at him in the next game. Pooran has finally 'responded' to the challenge.
After India's 3-2 loss to West indies in the recently-concluded T20I series, former wicketkeeper-batter Parthiv Patel opined that captain Hardik Pandya is "still a work in progress". Brandon King's superb unbeaten 85 led West Indies to an eight-wicket win over India in the series-deciding fifth T20I on Sunday. Set a target of 166 to win the final game, in Lauderhill, Florida, West Indies reached their target with two overs to spare with Nicholas Pooran scoring 47 in a partnership of 107 with King. The win was a morale-booster for West Indies cricket after the one-day team failed, last month, to qualify for the World Cup for the first time in their history.
Yuzvendra Chahal's wife Dhanashree Verma took to social media on Sunday to put up a special post for the cricket fans in Miami, a city in the United States of America. Dhanashree was among the spectators during India's fifth and final T20I match against West Indies in Lauderhil, a principal city of the Miami metropolitan area. She witnessed the game and was left stunned by the "dedication" of the spectators in Miami. "Match in Miami. Was stunned to see such dedicated & wonderful fans in Miami," read the post of Dhanashree.
Another outing for the Indian team, another disappointing show from Sanju Samson. The wicket-keeper batter failed to make an opportunity account yet again as the Indian team lost the deciding 5th T20I against West Indies by 8 wickets. With the series loss, many feel that the chances of Sanju Samson making the Indian team for the Asia Cup or the World Cup are also over. While Samson is to be blamed for throwing his wicket at times, West Indies had come up with a concrete plan to nullify him in the 5th T20I on Sunday.
