Alex Albon was dropped to the back of the grid for the Australian Grand Prix because there was not enough fuel in his Williams to provide a test sample after Saturday qualifying, officials said. The F1 website reported that Albon "stopped out on track after dropping out of Q1" and that Williams "were later unable to provide the required 1.0-litre fuel sample to the FIA." Albon finished with the 16th best time in the first qualifying run, too slow to progress to the last two sessions.

Aston Martin F1 driver Lance Stroll has been handed a three-place grid penalty for his part in a collision that saw Williams’ Nicholas Latifi suffer a high-speed crash during the first part of qualifying at the Australian Grand Prix. Having initially slowed down to allow Stroll to overtake at the exit of turn four, believing he was on a flying lap, Latifi then attempted to drive back up the inside of his fellow Canadian, who seemingly aborted his run. Ad/> However, Latifi ran out of room, collided with Stroll and was sent spinning into the barrier.
