TAMPA, Fla. — The Colorado Avalanche are Stanley Cup champions for the first time since 2001 after defeating the Tampa Bay Lightning 2-1 in Game 6 of the Cup Final on Sunday.
The Stanley Cup will be in the house at Amalie Arena on Sunday night, but the host Tampa Bay Lightning will do everything they can to prevent the Colorado Avalanche from clinching on their ice. After a late goal from Ondrej Palat in the third period, the Lightning held on for a 3-2 win in Game 5.
If the Tampa Bay Lightning are to come back from a 3-1 series deficit, they'll have to take inspiration from a time when "White Christmas" by Bing Crosby was the number one song in the country: 1942.
