"Stupid": Ex-Pakistan Star Blasts Australia Spinner For Predicting 5-0 Win vs India

Former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali called experienced spinner Nathan Lyon's comment about Australia winning the upcoming Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) series against India by 5-0 "stupid". On Tuesday, Lyon on the Willow Talk podcast answered a question by former Australian cricketer Brad Haddin and said, "My prediction is 5-0 to Australia." Basit slammed Lyon and stated that such remarks should not come from a cricketer. He even urged Ravichandran Ashwin to reply back to Lyon's comment. "I will only say one thing about Nathan Lyon's stupid statement that Australia will defeat India by six Tests, but only by words. In the past two series, India have dominated Australia. Such comments don't suit cricketers. Ricky Ponting or former cricketers can make such statements. I request Ashwin to reply back and say that India will defeat Australia by 5-0," Basit said on YouTube.

Cricket fans around the world are eagerly waiting to witness the thrilling Border-Gavaskar Test series between India and Australia. Over the years, this Test series has brought some great nail-biting action for the fans. Unlike the previous editions, this series, which will kick-start from November 22, will be having five matches. In 2023 edition, which was a four-match affair, Team India emerged victorious with 2-1 scoreline. However, the Pat Cummins-led side defeated India in their previous red-ball meeting, which was World Test Championship (WTC) Final in June 2023.

Pakistan Coach Backs Australia Quartet To "Do The Job" In Border-Gavaskar Trophy vs India

Pakistan Test head coach Jason Gillespie has backed Australia to beat India in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy, citing the strength of their bowling quartet -- Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood and Nathan Lyon. India enter this year's series riding high on their dominance in recent Border-Gavaskar contests, having won the last four series encounters, including two historic series wins on Australian soil in 2018-19 and 2020-21. Australia have not won the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series since 2014-15, when they won 2-0 on home soil.

India vs Bangladesh: 5 Records Ravichandran Ashwin Could Break In Test Series

Ravichandran Ashwin, one of India's finest in the longest format of the game, gears up for the 2-match Test series against Bangladesh, hoping to add some more laurels to his already decorated cap. When it comes to home Tests, there's arguably a better asset for the Indian team with the ball than Ashwin. Over the years, the Tamil Nadu-born off-spinner has delivered the goods, no matter the conditions. Against Bangladesh, he would look to break a few more records, further enhancing his Test legacy.

'Still Playing In Shane Warne's Shadow': Nathan Lyon's Massive Praise For Late Australian Great

Australia spinner Nathan Lyon has accepted to live with the fact of being constantly compared to legendary bowler Shane Warne throughout his career. The 36-year-old, who once felt pressure because of the comparison, has now found peace with it. The veteran of 129 Test matches and 530 wickets, Lyon revealed that the tall figure of Warne made it difficult to establish himself in international cricket. The greatest leg-spinner of all-time, who passed away at the age of 52 in 2022, had retired from international cricket in 2007 with a massive tally of 708 Test wickets.

Australia Star Pinpoints India's 'Three Big Ones' Ahead Of Border-Gavaskar Trophy

Veteran Australian spinner Nathan Lyon has identified Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Rishabh Pant as the three "big ones" to watch out for in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test series. The five-Test series between India and Australia gets underway Down Under from November 22, part of the World Test Championship. Besides the big ones, Lyon has also warned that the visitors have an 'amazing line-up', making things massively challenging for the hosts. "Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Rishabh Pant are probably going to be the three really big ones. But then, you've still got (Yashasvi) Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, (Ravindra) Jadeja, and who else will come out-another five, I'm not sure," he told Star Sports.

Muttiah Muralitharan Says No One Will Break His Test Wickets Record, Gives This Reason

Legendary Sri Lankan bowler Muttiah Muralitharan has expressed concern about the future of Test cricket. The off-spinner, who holds the record for the most wickets taken by any bowler in Test history with 800, admitted that he does not think his record would be broken by any bowler anytime soon. Muralitharan stated that cricketers nowadays focus on shorter formats, and therefore lack the consistency to near his record. He also expressed worry at decreasing viewership in many countries when it comes to Test cricket.

'Shoaib Bashir Should Look At Nathan Lyon's Bowling,' Advises Geoffrey Boycott

Geoffrey Boycott, the former England opener, has advised young off-spinner Shoaib Bashir to learn from Nathan Lyon's bowling videos, as he believes the Australia veteran is the most superior off-spinner in the cricketing world. In seven Tests since his debut on this year's tour of India, Bashir has picked 29 wickets, but went wicketless in second innings of series opener against Sri Lanka at Manchester, as the batters used their feet to unsettle his lines and lengths. "Shoaib Bashir has talent and can get better. He is tall with a fluid high action that will create occasional bounce on hard pitches together with a natural loop. My impression is he is not clear on what line he should be bowling so he tries all sorts of deliveries searching for a wicket.
