Former Australia captain Allan Border has expressed his disappointment over the team's inability to contain Virat Kohli during the first Test in Perth and feels that can potentially cost the hosts the five-match series. Kohli, who had not scored a Test century in 18 months, roared back to form with an unbeaten 100 in the second innings as India secured a thumping 295-run victory over the hosts. "I was really disappointed in the way we let Kohli roll on to a hundred without much resistance," Border told SEN radio on Friday morning.

India openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul extended the team's lead to 218 runs against Australia at the end of Day 2 of 1st Test in Perth. After Jasprit Bumrah's five-wicket haul allowed India to restrict Australia to 104 in the first innings at the Optus Stadium, Jaiswal and Rahul stitched an unbeaten 172-run stand. While Jaiswal was unbeaten on 90, Rahul played as the second fiddle to him. He was unbeaten on 62 with India in a commanding position despite scoring 150 in the first innings.

Captain Jasprit Bumrah picked a dazzling 5-30 as India secured a handy 46-run lead at lunch on day two of first Test after bowling out Australia for 104 in 51.2 overs at Perth Stadium on Saturday. It is also the third lowest-score for Australia in Tests at home since 2000. In the morning, resuming form 67/7, India looked certain to end the innings early, but Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood frustrated them with a dogged last-wicket stand of 25 off 110 balls, as they were able to keep the deficit below 50 runs. Apart from Bumrah, debutant all-rounder Harshit Rana finished with 3-48.

The Indian team would be a touch disappointed that they couldn't get a handy lead, which seemed to be on the cards once Australia were reduced to 79 for 9. But Starc (26 off 113 balls) shielded Hazlewood (7 not out off 31 balls) admirably during their 25-run last-wicket stand that lasted 18 overs and got the lead below 50 (46 runs), making it a contest of who bats better in the second innings.
