The Women's Premier League (WPL) auction concluded successfully on Monday in Mumbai, with the 5 franchises splashing a whopping INR 59.5 crore on 87 players at the event. It was India's Smriti Mandhana who earned the biggest pay package, going to Royal Challengers Bangalore for Rs 3.40 crore while India captain Harmanpreet Kaur joined Mumbai Indians for Rs 1.80 crore. Other than the players, however, even the auctioneer Mallika Sagar became a talking point for the perfection with which she conducted the auction.
Mumbai Indians picked up Indian women's cricket team skipper Harmanpreet Kaur and paid a record amount for England international Nat Sciver in the WPL auction on Monday. While Harmanpreet went for Rs 1.8 crore, Sciver went on to become the joint highest overseas player alongside Australia all-rounder Ashleigh Gardner as she was paid Rs 3.2 crore. Along with Harmanpreet, two other India internationals – Pooja Vastrakar and Yastika Bhatia – also attracted substantial price tags.

The 25-year-old all-rounder Deepti Sharma, who is not new to the T20 format, also went for a huge amount as UP Warriorz ended up spending Rs 2.6 crore for her. While India skipper Harmanpreet Kaur was picked for Rs 1.8 crore by Mumbai Indians, two young stars of the team – Jemimah Rodrigues and Shafali Verma – both went to Delhi Capitals for amounts north of Rs 2 crore. Among the foreign talent, Ashleigh Gardner and Nat Sciver were the top picks among the five participating franchises.
Women's Premier League Auction 2023 Live Updates: The auction for the inaugural edition of the Women's Premier League (WPL) is underway at the Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai. The second accelerated round of auction is underway. India opener Smriti Mandhana has been the top buy so far in the auction with RCB splurging Rs 3.4 crore for her. Meanwhille, Ashleigh Gardner and Nat Sciver fetched a sum of Rs 3.2 crore each after being roped in by Gujarat Giants and Mumbai Indians, respectively. IRE vs ENG, Women's T20 World Cup Match Live Updates:Three-wicket haul from Sophie Ecclestone helped England in bundling out Ireland for 105 in the Group B match of the ongoing Women's T20 World Cup on Monday at the Boland Park in Paarl. Opted to bat first, Ireland lost quick wickets as Ecclestone scalped three while Charlotte Dean took two. Apart from them, Laura Bell and Katherine Sciver Brunt took one wicket each. For Ireland, Gaby Lewis became the highest scorer with 36 runs as no other batter was able to cross the 20-run mark.
