England captain Jos Buttler bemoaned the poor state of the outfield at Dharamsala where the defending champions take on Bangladesh in the World Cup on Tuesday.
England captain Jos Buttler has his "fingers crossed" that players avoid serious injury in their World Cup clash against Bangladesh on a Dharamsala surface he described as "poor". The notoriously sandy and bare outfield at the picturesque Himalayan ground has already come under fire at the tournament. Afghanistan coach Jonathan Trott claimed Mujeeb Ur Rehman could have suffered a serious injury when his knee jarred in the ground as he dived while fielding in Saturday's loss to Bangladesh. "It's poor in my opinion," said Buttler on Monday.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz starred with both bat and ball as Bangladesh launched their World Cup campaign with a dominant six-wicket win over Afghanistan in Dharamsala on Saturday.
DHARAMSALA, India : Ben Stokes is set to miss Tuesday's match against Bangladesh but England captain Jos Buttler is more concerned with the outfield in Dharamsala, which he thinks is not ideal for World Cup matches.
The outfield at the Dharamsala Stadium was the main talking point on Saturday after Bangladesh eased to a six-wicket win over Afghanistan in the 2023 World Cup.
Bangladesh win toss, bowl against Afghanistan in World Cup
Since getting ICC full membership in June 2017, Afghanistan have progressed as a cricketing nation and now they need a breakout performance in a global event to underline that growth. Afghanistan debuted in the 2015 World Cup, and in the two editions they have played so far, the Afghans have managed only one victory from 15 games, which came against Scotland. In the 2019 World Cup, Afghanistan came close to stunning India and Pakistan but they failed to close out the match, and this time they will look to better their performance and make this edition a memorable event.
Cricket World Cup 2023 will kick-start from October 5 in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India. Defending champions England will be taking on New Zealand in the opening match. All the ten teams are now ready to set the stage on fire as the battle for the ultimate title of cricket will be intense. Team Afghanistan will be opening their campaign against Bangladesh on October 7 in Dharamshala. Looking at their past performances, the Hashmatullah Shahidi's men are looking like dark horses. However, their magnificent spin-lineup, featuring the likes of Rashid Khan and Mujeeb Ur Rehman, can make them a dangerous side for any batter.
