Mohammed Siraj bowled a brilliant spell in Ranchi as India beat South Africa in the 2nd ODI on Sunday. However, in a hilarious instance, the pacer tried a cheeky run-out which ended up in four byes for South Africa. In the 48th over, Siraj got the ball to beat Keshav Maharaj. Sanju Samson, from behind the stumps, threw the ball back to Siraj, who saw non-striker David Miller standing outside his crease. He tried to have a quick throw at the stumps to run Miller out, but he missed and the ball raced away to the boundary.
Shreyas Iyer struck a sublime century while Ishan Kishan displayed his brute force against a formidable South African attack to set up a series levelling seven-wicket win for India in the second ODI here on Sunday. Mohammed Siraj led an inexperienced Indian bowling lineup brilliantly to restrict South Africa to 278/7 after the visitors opted to bat. The suspense of Jasprit Bumrah's replacement in the T20 World Cup 2022 still remains. Mohammed Shami, Deepak Chahar and Mohammed Siraj all remain in the fray but the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is yet to zero-in on the name of the player who will replace Bumrah. Though those in the know feel that Shami is the frontrunner to replace Bumrah, former India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar feels Siraj is 'really pushing' the veteran pacer for the spot.
Finding Jasprit Bumrah's replacement isn't the easiest of tasks. The marquee Indian pacer is out of the T20 World Cup 2022 with a back injury and will probably be out of action for months. There isn't a like-for-like replacement for Bumrah in the Indian team considering the qualities he brings, but there remain a couple of options for the selectors to choose from for the showpiece event in Australia. Among the top candidates, the choice is most likely to be made between Mohammed Shami and Deepak Chahar. Former India cricketer Parthiv Patel has given his opinion on the subject, suggesting which player among Chahar and Shami would he want to get the nod.
