How Mohammed Shami Took The Mantle Of India's Bowling Superstar In World Cup

As Mohammed Shami walked back to the top of his run-up, Virat Kohli geed the fans at the Wankhede Stadium to go full throat with their chants – Shaamii! Shaamii! They obliged merrily. It was a visible validation of Shami's status in this World Cup – India's superstar with the ball, the bowling equivalent of Kohli with the bat. It wasn't just because of his immaculate effort against New Zealand on Wednesday night, but now Shami is a single man force de frappe, even ahead of Jasprit Bumrah.

A Look At Mohammed Shami's Numbers Against Left-Hand Batters In World Cup 2023

Star India pacer Mohammed Shami is on a roll during the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup at home. Despite missing the first half of the league stage matches, Shami has played a vital role in his team's journey towards the final. In the semifinal against New Zealand, Shami took 7/57 in 9.5 overs at an economy rate of 5.79. Head to the fore as Australia set up World Cup final against India

KOLKATA: Travis Head starred with bat and ball as Australia set up a World Cup final clash with India after a tense three-wicket win over South Africa in Kolkata on Thursday. Chasing a tricky 213 for victory, Australia wobbled after Head hit 62 but Steve Smith (30) and Josh Inglis (28) helped the five-time champions reach their target with 16 balls to spare in the second semifinal in Kolkata. As Australia reached an eighth World Cup final, South Africa were left to rue a fifth semifinal loss despite David Miller’s 101. Australia slipped to 137-5 and then 193-7 before Mitchell Starc (16) and skipper Pat Cummins (14) kept their nerve to steer the team home. Left-hand batsman and part-time off-spinner Head stood out after taking two wickets and then with his 48-ball innings laced with nine fours and two sixes. Australia were in trouble when they were five down as spinners Keshav Maharaj and Tabraiz Shamsi struck in quick succession to rattle the middle-order. Maharaj bowled Head, who was dropped on 40 and 57, and Shamsi, a left-arm wrist spinner, trapped Marnus Labuschagne lbw for 18 and bowled Glenn Maxwell for one in his next over. Australia started the tournament with two losses but registered their eighth straight win. Starc led the bowling charge with figures of 3-34 and Cummins also picked three wickets to bowl out South Africa for 212 in 49.4 overs. Left-arm quick Starc struck in the first over to send back South Africa captain Temba Bavuma, who had said he was not “100 percent fit” at the toss, for a fourth-ball duck. Josh Hazlewood claimed the wicket of in-form Quinton de Kock for three as Cummins took a stunning catch. De Kock, who will quit one-day international after the World Cup, ended with 594 runs including

Watch: "What Controversy?" Shubman Gill's Funny Response On Pitch Swap Allegations Is Viral

Ahead of the India vs New Zealand Cricket World Cup semi-final, there were reports that the pitch for the game at the Wankhede Stadium was changed at the last moment. The reports alleged that though a fresh strip was prepared for the Cricket World Cup semi-final, the match finally took place on an 'used surface'. After Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer and Mohammed Shami guided India to the Cricket World Cup 2023 final with a win over New Zealand, legendary India batter Sunil Gavaskar fumed over the rumours and rubbished any such suggestions. The International Cricket Council (ICC) issued a statement regarding the entire incident.

"Want Those Morons Being Proven Wrong": Sunil Gavaskar Wants India vs Australia Cricket World Cup Final For This Reason

India are in the final of the ODI Cricket World Cup 2023. Only one win remains in between the Rohit Sharma-led Indian cricket team and the Cricket World Cup trophy. India have not an ICC trophy since 2013 and the Indian cricket team is on the cusp of ending that drought at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday. Ahead of the match, there were reports that said hosts have changed the pitch at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai in order to assist their spinners.
