Slamming the move of breaking the worldwide famous opening pair of Babar Azam and Mohammed Rizwan following the team's loss in the T20I series against New Zealand, former Pakistan cricketer and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Ramiz Raja asked the selectors what benefit they gained out of it. In the ongoing T20I series against Kiwis, Pakistan are trailing 3-0, with two games to go. In the series, Pakistan has been opening with new openers, Saim Ayub and Mohammed Rizwan, who have underperformed as a pair in this series so far.

Mohammad Rizwan tried to take a run without his bat but the result was not quite what he expected during the third T20I encounter between Pakistan and New Zealand on Wednesday. During the sixth over of the Pakistan innings, Rizwan played a ball from Matt Henry on the on-side but while sprinting to take a run, he lost control of his bat. He did not slow down and after touching down the crease at the non-striker end with his gloves, he ran to complete a second run. Although he had to complete a full-stretch dive at the end, no harm was done. However, the replays showed that during the first run, Rizwan's gloves were just short of the crease and as a result, the umpire decided to signal a short run.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has appointed wicket-keeper batter Mohammad Rizwan as the captain of the men's national team in the T20I format. Rizwan will be working as the deputy for Shaheen Shah Afridi, who was elevated to the role after Babar Azam's exit as the captain of the team in all three formats of the game. Since the conclusion of the ODI World Cup 2023, a lot has changed in the Pakistan team's leadership and board structure. Rizwan's appointment as the vice-captain in T20Is is part of the restructuring process.

Australia's Mitchell Starc bowled a ripper to clean up Pakistan opener Abdullah Shafique on Day 3 of the third and final Test match in Sydney. The left-arm pacer bowled a fuller delivery that was pitched outside off stump. The ball that was bowled at 143.5 kmph swung viciously into Shafique who had already committed to play in on the front foot. The extra swing found the bat-pad gap and rattled the stumps.
