LONDON : All-rounder Moeen Ali said he is open to playing test cricket again under new England coach Brendon McCullum.
New England coach Brendon McCullum has reopened the door to Test cricket for Indian Premier League star Jos Buttler and is also eager to see if the likes of Liam Livingstone, Moeen Ali and Adil Rashid want to be part of his red-ball revamp.
Rajasthan Royals (RR) to a five-wicket win against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Friday with superb all-round performance, off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin was elated to get the chance to bat and make a 'double' contribution in the team's victory. Ashwin claimed 1/28 with the ball as he helped RR claw their way back into the game after CSK had blasted 75/1 in powerplay, thanks mainly to Moeen Ali, who smashed a 19-ball half-century. Ashwin then came back to contribute with the bat as well, scoring crucial unbeaten 40 runs off 23 balls as Rajasthan successfully chased 151 to secure a place in the playoffs.
Rajasthan Royals on Friday qualified for the IPL 2022 playoffs after beating Chennai Super Kings by five wickets in Match 68 at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. Chasing a target of 151, RR lost the wicket of Jos Buttler in the second over. However, Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 59 off 44 balls to put RR in a comfortable position. Ravichandran Ashwin remained unbeaten on 40 off just 23 balls as RR chased down the total with two balls to spare. Earlier, CSK could only manage a total of 150 for six, despite Moeen Ali's 57-ball 93.
Ravichandran Ashwin, once again, proved his utility with the bat when his team needed it the most as Rajasthan Royals defeated Chennai Super Kings by five wickets to finish the IPL league phase in Top-2 on Friday. Ashwin remained unbeaten on 40 off 23 balls as RR completed the chase of 151 with two balls to go, grabbing the second place to set up a blockbuster clash with Gujarat Titans in the first play-off next Tuesday. Moeen Ali top-scored for CSK with a 57-ball 93 before RR staged a remarkable comeback to restrict the yellow brigade to 150 for six in the allotted 20 overs.
Chennai Super Kings might have had a "perfect game" against Delhi Capitals but skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni doesn't want to lose his sleep over play-off qualifications as he feels that even if they fail in that pursuit, it won't be "end of the world". CSK beat Delhi Capitals by 91 runs and moved to the eighth position in the league table and will now need to win three games and depend on other results to make it as fourth place entrants in the play-offs.
Devon Conway's blazing blade and Moeen Ali's effective off-breaks beautifully complemented each other as Chennai Super Kings outclassed Delhi Capitals in every department of the game, winning their IPL 2022 match by a comprehensive 91-run margin. Put in to bat, Conway completed a hat-trick of half-centuries with a superb 87 off 49 balls to set up a winning score of 208 for 6 in 20 overs. The scoreboard pressure was always mounting on Capitals as they finally managed 117 in 17.4 overs with Moeen (3/13 in 4 overs) taking wickets of Mitchell Marsh (25 off 20 balls) and skipper Rishabh Pant (21 off 11 balls) in quick succession to finish the contest.
Royal Challengers Bangalore batter Virat Kohli showed glimpses of returning to form against Gujarat Titans as he played a 58-run knock but his innings against Chennai Super Kings has left a lot to be desired. The right-handed batter scored 30 runs off 33 balls and he found it tough to register big strikes. Former New Zealand batter Daniel Vettori said that at no stage did Kohli look like going for anything but a single against CSK.
