IPL AUCTION: AS IT HAPPENEDDavid Warner and Mitchell Marsh, the player of the T20 World Cup and player of the T20 World Cup final, are expected to make up for the lack of firepower due to the loss of Shikhar Dhawan, Shimron Hetmyer and Marcus Stoinis. But the real challenge will be to stabilize the middle-order which will help leverage their skipper Rishabh Pant to play the high-impact role. This is where the likes of KS Bharat, Mandeep Singh and Sarfaraz Khan are expected to play their roles. "One must remember Bharat played at No. 3 for RCB last year and did a very good job. He is expected to play a similar role here if needed. He is not seen just as a backup wicketkeeper to Pant," Saba Karim, DC's head of talent search, told TOI moments after the auction on Sunday evening.
Kuldeep Yadav was not handled well by Kolkata Knight Riders in the last few editions of the IPL. "I don't think he has been handled well in the IPL for the last few seasons, he is a player who rides very much on confidence. In the environment we've created at Delhi Capitals with Ricky Ponting and Rishabh Pant, it is something that we want to give him. He has a lot to prove, and I think the fire in his belly is there and we are very keen to see what he does in the next IPL," Jindal said on 'Auction Alert with Boria'.
The Delhi Capitals acquired the ace Australian opener, David Warner, along with his fellow countryman Mitchell Marsh on Day 1 of the IPL 2022 Mega Auction in Bengaluru. The ace opener Warner was bought for Rs. 6.25 crore, while Marsh was acquired for Rs 6.50 crore. Warner, who started his career with the Delhi franchise, became the first buy of the IPL 2022 mega auction for the Capitals. The seasoned campaigner led Sunrisers Hyderabad to their maiden IPL title in 2016. Having scored as many as 5449 runs in 150 matches at an average of 41.59, the southpaw is the fifth-highest run-getter in IPL history. He has 4 tons and 50 half-centuries to his name.
Virender Sehwag has picked five Indian players, who he says will be the most sought after ones in the IPL 2022 mega auction, scheduled for February 12 and 13. Sehwag said the likes of Shikhar Dhawan, Shardul Thakur, Shreyas Iyer, Yuzvendra Chahal, and most importantly Ishan Kishan could be among the most expensive players in the mega auction and many franchises will line up to acquire their services.
