In Australia's desperate hunt for a victory, all-rounder Mitchell Marsh emerged as a match-winner, scoring 52 runs off 51 balls as his team chased down the target of 210 runs with relative ease. Marsh's half-century was crucial to Australia's successful chase, and after the game, the all-rounder caught up with the broadcaster where he was asked a cheeky question by Indian cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar. LUCKNOW, India: Five-time champions Australia secured their first win at the Cricket World Cup with a five-wicket victory over Sri Lanka on Monday with almost 15 overs to spare and after a rain delay, high winds and dust from a sand storm.
Australian captain Pat Cummins said the team management is keeping a close watch on the fitness of all-rounder Marcus Stoinis, who has picked up a hamstring injury, ahead of their World Cup match against India in Chennai on Sunday. Cummins said Stoinis would be put through his paces in the next few hours before taking a final call on the Western Australian cricketer. "We'll announce a team tomorrow at the toss. Stoinis, yeah, still touch and go. He's going to have a run out soon, but probably up against it. He's got to jump through a few hoops. Yeah, we'll see," said Cummins on Saturday during his pre-match press meet.
