CUPRA EKS driver Mattias Ekström proved fastest in the Pool FURIOUS quaifying sessions at the Circuito de Madrid Jarama-RACE with the Swede setting a time in Q1 which was unbeaten by any of the Q2 runs, with Ekström himself opting to save his tyres in the searing heat. Ekström set a 1m 37.264s lap which was over a tenth slower than his CUPRA EKS team-mate Jordi Gené, running in the FAST pool.

Néstor Girolami was quick to praise his hard-working ALL-IKL.COM Münnich Motorsport team after he overcame the challenge of carrying 40 kilograms of compensation weight to score a WTCR Race of Hungary podium and keep himself firmly in FIA world title contention. Argentine Girolami arrived at the Hungaroring as the Goodyear #FollowTheLeader and although he no longer holds the advantage having slipped behind Mikel Azcona in the title race, Girolami’s capture of third place in last weekend’s second encounter aboard his Goodyear-equipped Honda Civic Type R TCR was a standout achievement nevertheless.
Hyundai Motorsport N is seeking success in Spain in the third round of the 2022 FIA ETCR eTouring Car World Cup, Race SP, this weekend, with the team’s first King of the Weekend crown of the year it’s goal and with a new driver in its midst. After a competitive weekend at the Hungaroring for the second round of the FIA ETCR eTouring Car World Cup Hyundai Motorsport was able to reflect on its strongest showing in the 2022 season and as vast improvement at a circuit where it struggled with speed in the inaugural PURE ETCR season less than 12 months ago. After setting competitive times in Qualifying, both Mikel Azcona and Kevin Ceccon secured positions in Pool FAST’s Quarter Final 1. Azcona was able to successfully overtake the CUPRA of Mattias Ekström, but lost the victory in the final two corners of the Quarter Final after a small mistake.
Mikel Azcona is the WTCR – FIA World Touring Car Cup’s new Goodyear #FollowTheLeader after he moved to the top of the provisional title standings by taking his second win of the season for BRC Hyundai N Squadra Corse at the Hungaroring on Sunday. Azcona, who also won Race 2 at WTCR Clean Fuels for All Race of France last month, converted his Race 1 pole into an impressive victory before completing his WTCR Race of Hungary weekend with eighth place in Race 2 driving a Goodyear-equipped Hyundai Elantra N TCR. Nathanaël Berthon secured the podium finish he lost out on in Pau with a push for second place at WTCR Race of Hungary resulting in third position in Race 1. The Comtoyou DHL Team Audi Sport ace had trailed leader Mikel Azcona for much of the opening WTCR – FIA World Touring Car Cup contest at the Hungaroring yesterday but couldn’t quite hold on to the runner-up spot, taking third instead behind King of WTCR Yann Ehrlacher.
