Aston Villa could make a move for Manchester United full-back Brandon Williams, according to Birmingham Live.
The Premier League confirmed in their 2021/22 retained list on June 10 that Ashley Young had been released by Aston Villa. The 36-year-old made 25 appearances in all competitions this season, grabbing two assists. It seems a strange decision to let him go, as Young was a useful squad player that could deputise for any injured fullback.
Here are your Manchester United evening headlines on Sunday, June 12:
Manchester United and other Premier League sides are able to do business after the transfer window reopened.
Frenkie de Jong wasn’t too happy with the referee after finding himself on the receiving end of a horror tackle during his latest appearance for the Netherlands.
ROTTERDAM: Memphis Depay missed a last-minute penalty as the Netherlands drew 2-2 with Poland in the Nations League on Saturday in a game where the hosts trailed 2-0 at one stage.
Netherlands launched a second-half comeback from two goals down to earn a 2-2 draw against Poland in Rotterdam on Saturday and retain top spot in Nations League Group A4, extending their unbeaten run to 12 matches. Louis van Gaal’s side dominated possession early on but could not find a way through the resolute visitors, who rested star man Robert Lewandowski, and Aston Villa defender Matty Cash punished the home side’s wastefulness by scoring his first international goal against the run of play.
The Southgate five do not include the most expensive English right-back of all time. Gareth Southgate famously finds it hard to accommodate Trent Alexander-Arnold but at least he picked him in his Nations League squad, in a quintet of right-backs along with Kyle Walker, Kieran Trippier, Reece James and James Justin. Four of them were in his original Euro 2020 squad, before the Liverpool playmaker withdrew. England can look lopsided due to the luxury of options.
