Si Jiahui showed why Ronnie O'Sullivan expects him to become a future world champion with a classy display at the Championship League in Leicester. Returning to competitive action for the first time since the dejection of his agonising 17-15 loss to Luca Brecel in the World Championship semi-finals in April, Si picked up from where he left off by winning Group 25. Trailing 8-6 in the first-round match, Selt looked to have put Selby in a very difficult position as he played tightly up behind the brown after potting a long red. Ad With red balls clustered around the other end of the table it looked a challenge for Selby to get out without leaving a pot on.

The four-time champion led 6-3 overnight after a strong start where he produced breaks of 94, 83, 110 and 131. Ad He wasn’t cueing as impressively in a scrappy and tight deciding session but produced a fine 112 break to finally end Selt's hopes and win 10-8.
