BIRMINGHAM, England : Veteran seamer James Anderson will replace Jamie Overton for England in the rescheduled fifth test against India at Edgbaston, the team said on Thursday.
England on Thursday announced their playing XI for the rescheduled fifth Test against India that begins at Edgbaston on Friday. James Anderson, who was ruled out of the third Test against New Zealand, has returned to the team, replacing Jamie Overton. Sam Billings, who was Ben Foakes' COVID-19 replacement in the third Test against New Zealand, has been picked to keep wickets. "The Three Lions make one change to the side that won the third Test against New Zealand at Headingley, with Jimmy Anderson returning to the side in place of Jamie Overton," the England Cricket Board wrote in its official statement.
When called up for the recent New Zealand series, Matthew Potts was asked how he would approach a maiden Test appearance that had seemed so unlikely just a few months earlier.
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) on Monday named the squad for the upcoming Test against India, beginning Friday in Birmingham, Edgbaston. Kent wicketkeeper Sam Billings has been added to the Test squad for the rearranged fifth Test versus India starting on Friday at Edgbaston.
LEEDS, England : New Zealand were dismissed for 326 to set England a target of 296 for victory after the in-form Daryl Mitchell and Tom Blundell had again frustrated the hosts on the fourth day of the third test at Headingley on Sunday.
Daryl Mitchell and Tom Blundell joined a select group of players when they posted their fourth century partnership of a Test series on Sunday. Only four other pairs have performed a similar feat, with Australia's David Boon and Mark Waugh sharing five hundred stands during the 1993 Ashes series in England.
England were frustrated by the familiar pairing of Daryl Mitchell and Tom Blundell as New Zealand fought back hard on the fourth morning of the Headingley Test.
